Why So Many Bright Students Struggle
Sometimes capable students can start to feel behind by 3rd grade — not because they can’t learn, but because modern early literacy instruction is complicated and confused. This is also the age where many students are expected to make a quick shift to computer based reading and writing.
Many parents are told to “just read and write more at home.” But when a child is discouraged, that advice doesn’t help. They need structured support from an expert who can identify where progress breaks down — and rebuild confidence one skill at a time.
At Conscious Tutoring, we take a compassionate, science-based approach that meets students where they are, helps them feel safe to try again, and reminds them that learning can actually be fun.
Our Approach — The Four Foundations of Conscious Tutoring
Science
Research That Works
Our teachers use evidence-based reading and writing methods rooted in the Science of Reading. We assess phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension to create targeted lessons — no guesswork, no busywork.
Self
Regulation & Focus Tools
We integrate short breathing, movement, and grounding practices that help students feel calm and focused. When their bodies are regulated, their brains can finally learn.
Skill
Step-by-Step Mastery
Students practice decoding, sentence writing, and expression through direct, explicit instruction. Each session includes measurable goals and short activities to build confidence and stamina.
Social
Learning in Community
Younger students thrive when learning feels connected. We create warm, supportive spaces where peers read aloud together, celebrate progress, and learn that struggle is part of success.

What Parents Are Saying
“My son has been very reluctant to get tutoring help. Being at home, having friends in the sessions, and focusing for only 45 minutes made this a perfect fit.
His reading pace and progress have amazed me. He seems more confident in general — which is everything.”
- Erica M.
““My son was so proud when he finished his first book-club book.
He wants to be caught up before his next meeting! He even asked to re-enroll so he could keep meeting with the same group of boys. I can’t remember the last time he finished a chapter book at home.”
- Spring 2023 Parent
“Paxton has thrived under this tutoring. The dynamic approach — incorporating group time — has helped his focus. Working with other children builds confidence and teaches him to listen, collaborate, and learn in new ways.”
- Dana Stone
